March 21 to 30, 2025 in Magdeburg

Welcome!

For the 13th time, the International Telemann Society invites musicians to take part in the International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg. This year, for the first time, the public competition will focus on two categories: historical string instruments (baroque violin, viola da gamba) and chamber music ensembles. The competition is intended for musicians between the ages of 18 and 34 who are committed to historically informed performance practice.

The international jury includes Barthold Kuijken (chair), Mechthild Karkow, Enrico Gatti, Mime Brinkmann, Arnie Tanimoto (jury members for strings) and additionally for chamber music ensembles: Alfredo Bernardini, Dorothee Oberlinger, and Nicholas Parle.

Participants can expect an inspiring repertoire and the finalists in the historical string instruments category can once again look forward to being accompanied by the renowned Leipziger Barockorchester. In addition, winners of the competition can look forward to awards worth a total of EUR 15,500 in the respective categories and concert engagements at renowned early music festivals, among others.

Registration for the 13th International Telemann Competition will be open online on muvac.com from November 1, 2024. Admission to the competition in the category of period string instruments is based on a video recording to be submitted. In the chamber music ensembles category, the first round will be held digitally on the base of video recordings.  The registration deadline is January 6, 2025.
